Hi and thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

It's kind of a gray area and there are certainly pros and cons. I think it's
dependent on the industry in which crowdsourcing is being used.

Naomi Williams

DigitalFanGirl,

Crowd-sourcing in my opinion has two distinct flavors, and both are great solutions to different problems. The first type of crowd-sourcing is the one you have described, in what I would refer to as open bid or competitive crowd-sourcing, where you present a problem to the crowd and are looking to benefit from competition within the crowd to solve your problem. A great way as the buyer of services to see the results of what's available as opposed to the possibilities. You shift the risk from yourself to the seller (of services in this case) If you don't really have the money or resources to take multiple attempts then this is really good option.

The second is when you are looking for an aggregated solution, a sort of "wisdom of the crowd" solution to some sort of problem. The veracity of information, the reliability of a review or recommendation are some examples that come to mind. Wikipedia, which you use as a reference, is a great example of crowd-sourcing.

Obviously, if you are in a position where you are in competition with a "crowd", crowd-sourcing is not necessarily something to get excited about.

My two cents,

Toma
