Day 5: Atomichelix Taskify! – $FREE

I installed this app a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. There are times when I receive emails where I need to go back to later to either respond to them, research something that was mentioned in the email or to do something that was asked of me in that email. Atomichelix Taskify allows you to save that email as a task right from the email itself and it automatically gets added to your BlackBerry tasks app. Now how simple is that?

To install this app OTA, visit http://www.atomichelix.com/downloads/taskify/1.0.0/atomichelix_taskify.jad from your BlackBerry Browser.

BlackBerry App of the Week: Twitterberry

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On December - 4 - 2008

This week I am featuring Twitterberry. Not because it’s new; because it isn’t. However, the Twitterberry developers have just updated it and it is FA-BU-LOUS… It is so much better than the older version. If you’re a BlackBerry user and on Twitter; you should definitely be using Twitterberry.

There are some new additions to the upgraded version of Twitterberry that us BlackBerry users have been demanding since they launched. Well, they listened and have added the following options:

1. Read and send direct messages
2. Get your friend list
3. Send photos to Twitpic
4. Mark a tweet as a favorite
5. Follow a user from the timeline window
6. Leave (unfollow) a user from the timeline window

These are major changes because they are ones us Twitterberry version 1 users have been asking for. So we are extremely pleased with this latest version and of course we love being listened to. (If only other folks would follow suit).

I highly recommend Twitterberry. IMO, it is the best Twitter app for Blackberry out there…

3G BlackBerry BOLD vs 3G iPhone

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On July - 2 - 2008

I subscribe to a series of Mac fanboy fangirl podcasts and for the last month they have ALL been drowning me in iPhone information, news and updates. I gotta be honest; I am sick of hearing  about the iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an amazing phone, but I don’t ever see myself abandoning my BlackBerry for the iPhone. I started off with the 8700 and last summer I got the 8800; love them both. NOW I am anxiously awaiting the BlackBerry BOLD.

There are so many things I LOVE about my BlackBerry; the super stable email, the ability to add 10 outside email accounts, BlackBerry maps with built-in GPS, the calendar and contacts, wireless syncing of my calendar and contacts from my BlackBerrry to my mac (using Pocketmac and Bluetooth) and the most important thing – the full size qwerty keyboard.

If I didn’t send massive amounts of text messages, emails and instant messages from my BlackBerry the keyboard thing wouldn’t even be an issue. Not to mention I tweet, update/check facebook and use BlackBerry Messenger from my BlackBerry as well. All in all – it’s just a good solid phone and it is truly my main communications tool.

A couple other things to note about the 3G BlackBerry BOLD and 3G Apple iPhone:

  • The 3G iPhone’s internal processor is STILL the same as the original. So much for more speed. Whereas previous BlackBerrys had 312MHz and the new BOLD has a 624MHz processor. Who’s truly “twice as fast” as before?
  • BlackBerry’s consumer PUSH email service is included with your BlackBerry internet Service (BIS) plan. In addition the iPhone internet you must pay for “MobileMe” subscription for PUSH email.

Finally My Love Has Come: Welcome BlackBerry Bold (9000 series)

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On May - 12 - 2008

All of you know I’ve been patiently waiting for the new BlackBerry to come out. I have an 8800, which I love, but I truly want a camera on my BB and wifi and am so anxious to see what other great new features the 9000 series BB will have.

So, it is official. The new BlackBerry Bold (yes, that is the official name) is here. UNFORTUNATELY (for me) AT&T will launch this phone first (dammit to all hell). But there is a 1700mhz model coming out later, which will support the T-Mobile (that’s my network carrier) 3G network.

I must say, I’m kinda diggin’ the design of this phone. It’s kinda sexy – very sleek – way thinner than my 8800. It is also longer and wider than the current BB Curve.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the features:

  • 1GB on-board memory with encryption
  • Tri-band HSDPA
  • Pricing in the $300-$500 range with a carrier
  • Launching on AT&T “this summer
  • Interchangable color back plates
  • 5 hours of talk time, 13 days of standby time.
  • 624-MHz Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor
  • BlackBerry® Unite! software for SOHO and home users

Itookthisonmyphone.com – is it good enough???

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On March - 10 - 2008

logo.gifI ran across itookthisonmyphone.com; an application for BlackBerry Curve and Pearl users. With itookthisonmyphone, there is no longer any need to manually transfer and post photos taken on your BlackBerry. You simply install the itookthisonmyphone software on your BlackBerry Curve or Pearl and start taking pictures. So, this sounds like a pretty good tool to have on your Curve or Pearl. They say all you need to do is take a photo and it will automatically post to your itookthisonmyphone.com account.

Here’s where I think they are missing the mark. The fact that you can have your photos uploaded automatically is wonderful, however, I don’t want my photos being uploaded to a photo gallery within itookthisonmyphone.com. I want the ability to have my photos automatically posted to my flickr, tumblr, twitter, facebook account and/or one of my blogs; like Twitxr allows users to do. If my photos are uploaded to this photo gallery on itookthisonmyphone.com I still have an extra step(s) in that I now have to transfer those pictures to where I wanted them to be posted in the first place.

I’ll have to keep my eye on them to see if they add these automatic integration options for flickr, tumblr, twitter, facebook account and blogs. Until then, I’m gonna have to pass.

Stop Teasing Me Already & bring on the new BlackBerry

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On March - 3 - 2008

I have a BlackBerry 8800 and while I absolutely LOVE IT, I really want a Blackberry with a camera. I’ve been reluctant in getting the Curve because I’ve been having a feeling like a newer and better BlackBerry is coming out. Well, there are rumors about a new BlackBerry all over the web and I must say I am pretty anxious to see what really hits the streets. The first set of rumors reported the new BlackBerry would pretty much be identical to the iPhone. That sent a shock of roaring rage through my body. While on everything else I am a total MAC fan, I just can’t get with the iPhone (oh crap, I hope the iPhone mafia doesn’t come after me – maybe I should retract this statement).

Actually, I think the iPhone is a cool phone. The ONE thing I HATE is that dang keyboard. What’s up with that? I have played around on other people’s iPhones and it’s all good until I try to type something. Sorry, I need REAL keys. Also, I am so used to the email stability that BlackBerry offers; I don’t know if the iPhone can measure up to that. So, I choose to remain a BB girl.

So when I saw these photos of the supposed new BlackBerry 8330 on the BB Geeks blog, I was very pleased to see that the new BlackBerry did in fact have real keys and did not imitate the iPhone.

NOTE TO RIM: I’m tired of being teased with all of these leaked photos. Release the dag-gum thing already and make sure T-mobile gets first dibs please. Thank you kindly

BlackBerry with a Slide-out Keyboard (I’m intrigued)

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On March - 3 - 2008

BlackBerry apparently has a new patent in the works. It’s for a BlackBerry with a slide-out keyboard. Looking at the drawing, the design looks just like a Pocket PC. I am intrigued. Why are they going after this type of design to add to their collection? Is it because the Blackberry Pearl gained them such a large number of new younger subscribers? Are they trying to make a bigger effort in marketing to this audience by designing other Blackberry models that are much more hip and sleek in its design (similar to the Pocket PC, The Wing and Sidekick)? I wonder. I don’t think it’s a bad design; just curious about the motive. If this comes to fruition, I wonder if it will have any better camera and video features.

The official patent title is: HYBRID PORTRAIT-LANDSCAPE HANDHELD DEVICE WITH TRACKBALL NAVIGATION AND QWERTY HIDE-AWAY KEYBOARD
