GovLoop Project of the Week – MyGov: Cities Serving Citizens

mygov-logoI’m one of the community leaders over at GovLoop for the GovLoop Project of the Week. Every 4th Wednesday I showcase a new tech related project.

The ability to provide common services to citizens via the web is a growing need. There are some cities whom have enough funding to hire an in-house team to develop a full fledged system, some may have the ability to contract the work out, but others may not have the resources to take on such a major tasking. For those cities, a service like MyGov could be the next best thing.

GovLoop Project of the Week – HRSA Web Content Strategy Transformation Project

1. What does HRSA do?
The Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) is the primary Federal agency for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated, or medically vulnerable. HRSA improves health and saves lives by making sure the right services are available in the right places at the right time.

GovLoop Project of the Week – Have You Met OraTweet?

hello_oratweetI’m one of the community leaders over at GovLoop for the GovLoop Project of the Week. Every 4th Wednesday I showcase a new tech related project.

While searching for an enterprise micro-blogging tool for my own job, I ran across OraTweet; developed by Noel Portual. I contacted the developer to interview him, but he never responded. However, this tool has so much potential for those working with enterprise systems whom are looking for a micro-blogging solution, I felt it was still important to spotlight OraTweet for project of the week. Currently OraTweet is still in the pilot stage, but appears to be successful and people are using it and it is starting to get a good amount of news coverage.

1. What is this web 2.0 initiative in your county all about?
This project grew from an understanding in IT that there were better ways to communicate with each other and the public. There are so many tools out there that we can use to communicate with different constituencies, even foster a dialog between them. Getting more people interested, involved, and providing ideas can only make our County government better.

What is Open eGov?
- a framework for a city government’s website
- provides context-sensitive portlets of information; e.g., each department controls what is in its portlets based on its currently published content, but the portlet placement and names are consistent throughout the site
- provides multiple ways to find content, both at the department level and for the whole site
